Why does my double-sided tape keep falling off?
The double-sided tape always falls off, usually not because the tape is not good, but because there is at least one mismatch in the surface, pressure, temperature, time, adhesive type, and load-bearing capacity. Pressure sensitive adhesive does not stick permanently once applied, it requires a curing process.
Common reasons:
◉ Surface not clean
• Dust, oil stains, water vapor, hand sweat, wax, and release agents can all make the adhesive stick only to dirty things. Before pasting, wipe it clean with alcohol/isopropanol and completely dry it.
◉ Surface energy is too low, naturally difficult to stick
• PP、PE、 Teflon, silicone, some powder coatings, and latex paint walls are all difficult to stick. Special low surface energy tape, adhesive aid, or slight polishing are required first.
◉ Surface too rough or curved
• Insufficient contact area. Choose thicker foam double-sided tape or nano tape and increase the bonding area.
◉ Insufficient pressing
• Just a gentle press is not enough. To apply pressure for 10-30 seconds, it is best to use a roller or thumb to press outward from the center to expel the bubbles.
◉ Load bearing before curing
• Many double-sided tapes require 24 hours to reach maximum strength. Immediately hang heavy objects after pasting, it is easy to slip off.
◉ Inappropriate temperature
• Low temperature initial viscosity difference, high temperature will soften and creep. In winter, you can first use a hair dryer to slightly heat it up to 30-40 ℃ before applying it; Choose heat-resistant acrylic or silicone tape for high temperature environments.
◉ Wrong selection of tape type
• Ordinary cotton paper double-sided tape is only suitable for lightweight and temporary fixation; For load-bearing, outdoor, and humid environments, foam adhesive and acrylic should be used VHB、 Nano adhesive or specialized waterproof adhesive.
◉ Load and environment exceeding limits
• Overweight, dynamic shaking, humidity, exposure to sunlight, and oily environments can all cause the adhesive to creep and peel off. It can increase the area, reduce the lever, or be mechanically fixed with screws/hooks.
◉ Expired tape or poor quality
• If the tape is left for too long, exposed to heat and freezing, or if the adhesive surface is covered in dust, its stickiness will decrease.
Correct pasting method:
• Clean the surface with alcohol and let it dry;
• Do not touch the adhesive surface with your hands;
• Press firmly for 10-30 seconds after pasting;
• Can be heated slightly before pressing;
• Let it stand for 24 hours before hanging things;
• Choose foam/acrylic/VHB/nano adhesive for heavy objects and increase the bonding area.
