What are the materials of anti slip tape?
Anti slip tape is usually composed of a substrate, a surface anti slip layer, and a backing adhesive. Common materials can be classified as follows:
1. Common substrates
• PVC (polyvinyl chloride): the most common, flexible, waterproof, and hand tearable, suitable for room temperature and humidity environments such as bathrooms, kitchens, and indoor stairs; Long term outdoor use is prone to aging and cracking.
• PET (polyester): high strength, wear resistance, weather resistance, and good temperature resistance, suitable for outdoor, high traffic places, and industrial environments.
• PEVA (polyethylene vinyl acetate): Soft, environmentally friendly, and gentle to the feet, commonly used in wet areas such as bathrooms and poolside where bare feet can come into contact.
• Rubber: Good elasticity, quietness, strong grip, suitable for indoor scenes such as gyms and corridors.
• Polyurethane (PU): It has good wear resistance and oil resistance, and some formulations have a wide temperature resistance range, suitable for oily or industrial use.
• Aluminum foil: high temperature resistance, strong plasticity, used for kitchen equipment and high-temperature industrial areas.
• Fiberglass: High strength, temperature and corrosion resistance, used in professional applications such as heavy industry and ships.
• Fabric/Fiber Reinforced Substrate: Some heavy-duty anti slip tapes will be used to enhance tear resistance.
2. Material of surface anti slip layer
• Diamond sand/silicon carbide: high hardness, extremely strong wear resistance, industrial grade high anti slip.
• Quartz sand: with balanced performance and moderate cost, commonly used in stairs, bathrooms, etc.
• Aluminum oxide: high hardness, diverse colors, and a balance between slip resistance and aesthetics.
• EPDM rubber particles: good elasticity, low noise, suitable for swimming pools, gyms, etc.
• PVC particles: water-resistant, corrosion-resistant, suitable for humid environments.
• Sand free embossed layer: relying on the material itself and the texture to prevent slipping, with a gentle foot feel, suitable for barefoot scenes.
3. Adhesive backing material
• Acrylic pressure-sensitive adhesive: the most common, with good weather resistance and stable adhesive strength.
• Rubber pressure-sensitive adhesive: Strong initial adhesion, low cost, but average temperature and weather resistance.
• Silicone/special adhesive: used for high temperature, low surface energy or special substrate adhesion.
Classified by anti slip form
• Sand mold: with stronger anti slip properties, suitable for stairs, ramps, and industrial areas.
• Sand free: Mild foot feel, suitable for bathrooms, poolside, and barefoot areas.
• Luminous/Fluorescent Type: Adding a light storage layer to the base material, used for emergency passages, garages, etc.
