Working principle of underground detectable warning tape
Detectable underground warning tape (also known as tracer tape, detectable warning tape) is mainly used in the construction of buried gas, water, communication, power and other pipelines. It is laid about 30-50cm directly above the pipeline and does not transmit signals, but works in conjunction with metal detectors/pipeline detectors.
Working principle: The tape contains a continuous metal conductor (usually tin plated copper wire, stainless steel wire, or aluminum foil tape).
1.Lay
Lay detectable warning tape in parallel above underground pipelines (PE pipes, PVC pipes, cables, etc.).
Adhesive tape is usually in bright colors (yellow for gas, blue for water supply, red for electricity, etc.), with warning signs such as "Multiple pipelines are strictly prohibited from excavation" printed on it.
2.Detect
Using metal detectors or pipeline detectors (transmitter+receiver) on the ground:
If the active signal method is used, sometimes the construction party will apply electromagnetic signals (clamps or direct connections) on the metal wire, and the detector can accurately locate it.
If only passive detection is used: the high-sensitivity metal detector can directly sense the presence of metal wires and prompt "there are buried objects below" to prevent blind excavation.
Scanning along the direction can roughly determine the pipeline direction and burial depth range.
3.Dual function of warning and positioning
When excavating mechanically, first excavate to the colored warning tape → remind to stop work and switch to manual excavation.
Even if it is not excavated (deeply buried or covered), instruments can be used to detect the position of its metal layer in advance.
