The installation of aluminum stair anti slip strips (stair flanges) requires the selection of appropriate methods based on the stair material and product design.
1. Preparation and cutting
◉ On site handling: Ensure that the edges of the stairs are clean, dry, flat, free of oil stains, and free of loose animals. If necessary, use sandpaper to polish and vacuum.
◉ Cutting: Based on the measurement results, use a suitable saw to cut the anti slip strip to the desired length (usually leaving 1-2mm expansion joints at both ends). Remove burrs after cutting.
2. Choose installation method (can be used in combination)
◉ A. Adhesive method (most common, suitable for concrete, wood, ceramic tiles, etc.)
• Apply structural adhesive to the back of the anti slip strip and/or the edge of the stairs (it is recommended to use a serrated spatula to scrape out a strip of adhesive).
• Align the position and press firmly to ensure complete fit with the edge.
• Check for straightness with a level ruler and temporarily fix with heavy objects or tape.
• Curing time: Follow the adhesive instructions (usually 24-48 hours before weight-bearing).
◉ B. Mechanical fixation method (recommended for high traffic areas, often combined with adhesive method)
• Pre drilling: Drill guide holes on stairs through pre drilled holes on anti slip strips (impact drills and drills are required for concrete).
• Combination fixation: First apply adhesive on the back, then immediately screw stainless steel screws through the holes into the staircase structure (concrete needs to be placed in expansion pipes).
• Decorative cover: Finally, cover with a matching color plastic buckle cap and hide the screw head.
◉ C. Embedded installation (suitable for new concrete or epoxy floor construction)
• When pouring concrete or laying epoxy resin, directly embed the anti slip strip into the uncured material to ensure its position is horizontal and fixed.
◉ Professional advice: For concrete/wood, adhesive and screw fixation are the most secure. Ceramic tiles/marble: High strength adhesive suitable for smooth surfaces is required.
3. Inspection and cleaning
• Clean up immediately: Before the glue solidifies, use a recommended solvent (such as alcohol) to wipe off any spilled glue.
• Comprehensive inspection: Confirm that all components are securely installed, free from looseness, and have no burrs on the edges
For most commercial and public building projects, the "adhesive+mechanical fixation" dual insurance solution is the most reliable choice.
